Member security alerts
IJA runs a member-only security alert system: timely bulletins on theft, con activity, and suspicious behavior affecting Indiana jewelers — organized by color (where it happened) and level (what kind of crime). Members can report incidents confidentially, too.
What the alerts mean
Color — where it happened
- Red Alert — Incident occurred in Indiana
- Orange Alert — Incident in a surrounding state (Ohio, Michigan, Illinois, Kentucky)
- Yellow Alert — Recurring threat / roaming thieves across nearby states
- Blue Alert — National threat or information
Level — what kind of crime
- 1 Violent crime (including the display of a weapon)
- 2 Vandalism (smash-and-run, break-in, etc.)
- 3 Grab and run
- 4 Known “con” activity
- 5 Distraction theft
- 6 Suspicious behavior (body language, hand gestures, alcohol on breath, distraction-theft attempt)
